An old rhyme warned that when Easter Day fell on or near Lady Day, 25 March, England would suffer some misfortune. Hone’s correspondent noted that Easter fell on 22 March in 1818, the year Queen Charlotte died, and on 26 March in 1826, a year of commercial distress. He took it as proof of how prophecies were kept alive by coincidence.
