In the West Riding the Sunday within the octave of All Saints was called Parkin Sunday. Parkin, a treacle and ginger cake, was found in every house for 5 November and eaten for several days before it. The Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould, who sent the note, thought it had first belonged to the All Hallows feast.
