The end of Marlow Fair

29 October · Marlow, Buckinghamshire

No longer kept

Marlow Fair was held on the last three days of October under a grant made by Edward II in 1324. It was abolished as a nuisance in 1903, and a public subscription raised 200 pounds to compensate the lord of the manor for his lost tolls. Hazlitt recorded its end as news.

The fair has been lately (1903) abolished as a nuisance
