The green stone of Arran

Martin told of a green stone on Arran, round like a globe and about the size of a goose egg, handed down carefully for generations. Laid close to the side it cured stitches, and if the patient was not going to recover the stone was said to leave the bed of its own accord. The islanders swore solemn oaths on it and believed that if it were thrown into the front rank of an enemy they would all run away. Its keeping was the privilege of the Clan Chattan, or Macintoshes.
