Lore and belief

Near Mold stood an ancient burial mound that the Welsh country people called Bryn yr Ellyllon, the Hill of the Fairies. In 1827 a woman coming home late from market swore she had seen a ghostly skeleton standing on the mound, dressed in gold that shone like the noonday sun. Six years later the barrow was cleared for farming and found to hold a skeleton wearing a corslet of pure gold, which went to the British Museum. Chambers thought the vision most likely came from a half-remembered tradition of gold buried in the goblin hill.

a spectral skeleton standing on this mound and clothed in a vestment of gold, which shone like the noon-day sun.
