The King of Cockneys at Lincoln’s Inn

Dugdale printed an order of Lincoln’s Inn from the ninth year of Henry VIII that the King of Cockneys should sit and have due service on Childermas Day. He and his marshal, butler and constable marshal were to keep good order and make no waste of wine, brawn or other victuals, and were not to meddle with the buttery or the steward of Christmas. The same order banished Jack Straw and all his adherents from the house on pain of a five pound fine.
