It was a common belief that a Queen Anne’s farthing was worth a fortune. Hone set out to correct it: the only farthing issued in her reign, with her head and Britannia 1714 on the back, was scarce but fetched at most twenty or thirty shillings in fine condition. Only some pattern farthings that were never issued were rarer and dearer.
