The Shrewsbury Show

The Shrewsbury Show was the yearly procession of the town’s guilds, held time out of mind on the second Monday after Trinity Sunday, near the feast of Corpus Christi. The guilds marched over the river to Kingsland, a high common where each company had its own hall or harbour, and spent the day feasting there. Chambers counted it with the Preston Guild and the Coventry Godiva procession as the last survivors of medieval town pageantry, and doubted that attempts to revive it would last.
