The Weaver of Dean Combe

A famous weaver named Knowles of Dean Combe in Devon was seen at his loom the day after his burial, still working. The vicar called him down, threw a handful of churchyard earth in his face and turned him into a black hound, which followed him to the pool below the waterfall. There he was given a nutshell with a hole in it and told he could rest only when he had emptied the pool with it, and the hound was said to be seen at the task at midday and midnight.
