What moles foretell

The Husbandman’s Practice, or Prognostication for Ever, of 1658 read a person’s nature from the moles on the body, so that a mole over the heart showed a wicked man and one over the spleen someone much given to passion and often sick. A Thousand Notable Things gave more: moles on the arm and shoulder meant great wisdom, one on the chin meant another near the heart and riches, and one on the right side of the forehead great riches for man or woman, the left the opposite. Moles on the right ear foretold riches and honour and on the left the reverse. Hone noted that mole books were still being published for the curious.
