Lammas, called August’s Wheel

1 August · England

Lore and belief

Lammas Day was called August’s Wheel, and by then the ripe corn was said to stink of camomile, the weed growing among it. The saying comes in Forster’s old rhyme of the flowers of the saints’ days.

Till Lammas Day, called August's Wheel, / When the long Corn stinks of Camomile.
