Some old people in Wales used to wear black clothes all through Lent as a sign of the season. Peter Roberts remembered the custom from his own youth but believed that by 1815 it had been wholly laid aside.

There was within my memory a custom of wearing black clothes during this season, observed by some old persons, but, I believe, it is now wholly laid aside.
