Battle has marked the Gunpowder Plot since at least 1646, when the churchwardens paid for gunpowder. The Battel Bonfire Boyes parade the old guy through the town in the morning, then lead a torchlit procession in the evening that ends with a bonfire and fireworks on Abbey Green, in front of the abbey gatehouse.

The Oldest Guy is carried to Abbey Green at about 10:00. In the evening the torchlit procession leaves Market Road at 19:30, goes down the High Street and through the Abbey Gatehouse, and the bonfire on Abbey Green is lit at about 21:00 with fireworks after.
