Cirencester’s Mop began as a hiring fair, where servants stood in the Market Place with the tools of their trade, and its charter is said to be more than 700 years old. It is held on two Mondays a week apart around Old Michaelmas Day, and the Nichols family of showmen have run it for over a century.

The rides fill the Market Place in front of the parish church and the streets around it. The Mop is held on two Mondays, and the second one comes back to the same place a week after this date.
