At midnight tall birch poles topped with burning tarred rags are carried round Comrie behind a pipe band, followed by a fancy dress parade. The burnt-out torches are thrown into the river to see out the old year. Children’s fancy dress and fireworks take place earlier in the evening.

Gather in Melville Square by the Royal Hotel, where the adult fancy dress is judged at 23:30. At midnight the flambeaux are carried round the village and finally thrown into the River Earn from Dalginross Bridge.
