Delting Up Helly Aa grew out of a school festival first held at Brae in 1970 and has been a community event since the 1980s. A guizer jarl and his squad, with women and children taking part, lead a torchlit procession and burn a Viking galley by the shore.

Delting Boating Club
The torches are lit at about 19:30 and the procession goes from Brae Hall to the Delting Boating Club at Busta, where the galley is burned and floated out into the voe. The jarl squad visits the schools during the day.
