Cecil Sharp first saw the Headington Quarry Morris Dancers on Boxing Day 1899, a meeting that sparked the English folk dance revival. Each Boxing Day the side performs its traditional mummers’ play around the village pubs, with rapper sword dancing and handbell ringing.

The side tours the pubs of Headington Quarry, finishing at the Masons Arms at about 13:45; earlier stops in 2025 were Old Road at 11:15 and the Six Bells and the Chequers on Beaumont Road. The schedule is published each December.
