Cwm Gwaun, the Gwaun Valley near Fishguard, still keeps New Year on 13 January, a survival of the old Julian calendar that Britain gave up in 1752. Local children go from house to house singing New Year wishes in Welsh and are given calennig, small gifts of money or sweets, and neighbours gather later to eat, drink and celebrate.
