St Winefride’s Well has drawn pilgrims for some fourteen centuries and is often called the Lourdes of Wales. Legend says the spring rose where the young Winefride was beheaded by a rejected suitor, and that her uncle St Beuno restored her to life. Each June, close to her feast on 22 June, the Bishop of Wrexham leads the national pilgrimage in procession from the parish church to the well for an open-air Mass and the blessing of the sick.
