Led by the Cornet, a mounted cavalcade rides out to check the marches of the town’s common land. The procession carries the town’s emblems, among them a giant thistle, a spade, a crown, and a barley bannock with a salt herring, and the Langholm Fair is proclaimed from horseback. Horse racing, games and dancing fill the rest of the day.

A flute band wakes the town at 05:00. The Fair is cried from horseback in the Market Place in the late morning, then the riders gallop up the Kirk Wynd to the hill. Racing, games and dancing follow on the Castleholm.
