Since the early 16th century the choir of Magdalen College has greeted the first of May from the top of the Great Tower at six in the morning, singing the Hymnus Eucharisticus. Thousands gather below, the bells ring out, and morris sides dance in the streets for the rest of the morning.

High Street by Magdalen Tower
Stand on the High Street or Magdalen Bridge below Magdalen Tower by about 05:30; the choir sings from the top of the tower at 06:00. The roads round the bridge are closed from 02:00 to 09:00, and morris dancers perform around the city afterwards.
