Beltane Fire Society marks the end of summer and the coming of winter with a night procession of drummers, fire performers and masked characters across Calton Hill. It draws on the old Celtic festival of Samhain, retold as a struggle between Summer and Winter, and a bonfire burns at its heart. Tickets must be bought in advance and often sell out.

Calton Hill
Enter Calton Hill from the foot of Regent Road. Gates open at 18:30 with last entry at 21:00, and the bonfire is lit at about 19:45. The ground is sloping and uneven, so wear sensible shoes and bring a torch.
