the first Sunday on or after 30 June · Claybrooke, Leicestershire

No longer kept

Claybrooke in Leicestershire kept its wake on the Sunday after St Peter’s Day, St Peter being the patron of the church. Aulay Macaulay, whom Brand quotes, wrote in 1791 that cousins came from all quarters for it, filled the church on the Sunday and kept the Monday with feasting, music and dancing.

on the annual return of those festivals, the cousins assemble from all quarters, fill the church on Sunday, and celebrate Monday with feasting, with musick, and with dancing.
