The wake of Weston Favell, near Northampton, began on the Sunday after St Peter’s Day with a special sermon and psalms that drew crowds from the neighbouring villages. For the first three or four days of the feast-week there was dancing at the inns and games of bowls and quoits, and all week long parties came out from the district to dine and take tea, usually ending with a ball. Hone took the account from John Cole’s history of the parish, published in 1827.
