Goatsbeard was known in the country as Go to Bed at Noon, because its flowers opened with the morning sun and shut regularly about midday, whatever the weather. Forster listed it among the plants that kept time like a flower clock.

Hence it is generally known in the country by the name of Go to Bed at Noon.
