On Holy Rood Day the king’s huntsmen hunted their free buck in Richmond New Park with bloodhounds. Hone found it recorded for Tuesday 14 September 1731, when it was done according to custom. He printed the note under Holy Rood Day beside the Eton nutting holiday and the country custom of going nutting on that day.
