Aubrey noted a Wiltshire proverb pairing two April saints’ days two days apart, St George’s on the 23rd and St Mark’s on the 25th. St George calls go and St Mark calls ho, the carter’s word to stop. Brand prints it among the lore of St George’s Day without explaining it.
