Where a Buckinghamshire house had been built with its oven jutting over the parish boundary, a boy was put into the oven during the Rogation perambulation to keep the line unbroken. The village lads drew lots for the honour. One year the procession found the oven full of blazing faggots, the chosen boy fled screaming, and another was sent scrambling over the oven roof instead.

A house in Buckinghamshire, still existing, has an oven only passing over the boundary line. It was customary in the perambulations to put a boy into this recess to preserve the integrity of the boundary line.
