Splashing at Taff’s Well after Easter

Trinity Sunday · Taff's Well, Glamorgan

No longer kept

About seventy years before Trevelyan wrote, the young people of the parish gathered at Taff’s Well, a thermal spring a few miles above Cardiff, on the eighth Sunday after Easter. They dipped their hands in the water and scattered the drops over each other, then went to the nearest green and spent the rest of the day dancing and making merry. The well, much used by people with rheumatism, was said to be haunted by a lady in grey.

Young people of the parish used to assemble near Taff's Well on the eighth Sunday after Easter to dip their hands in the water, and scatter the drops over each other.
