The Greenhill Bower

Lichfield’s show fair was held on Whit Monday, when members of the corporation and the town’s best tradesmen walked in procession from the guildhall to Greenhill. Each tradesman carried a model of his workshop on a flowered pole, worked by a wheel, and prizes went to the most ingenious. The booth on the hill was decked with flowers, which gave the fair its name, and cakes were given away at the corporation’s cost. The Bower is still held at Whitsun.

This booth is also decorated with flowers, and hence the fair has derived the appellation of "The Greenhill Bower."
