On Corpus Christi Day the members of the Skinners’ Company of London walked in procession from their hall on Dowgate Hill to the church of St Antholin in Watling Street to hear a service. They were attended by the boys the company kept at Christ’s Hospital school, and girls went before them strewing herbs. Brand’s editor says the custom had been kept time out of mind.
