Pennant’s manuscript notes that in Wales, on the eve of the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, the feast of Corpus Christi, the people of Caerwys strewed before their doors a kind of fern they called Red yn Mair. At Llanasa, also in Flintshire, the custom was to strew green herbs and flowers at the house doors on Corpus Christi Eve. It was a homely echo of the old Corpus Christi processions, when the streets were strewn with boughs and flowers.
