Many churches before the Reformation kept a plough light burning before an image, paid for by the husbandmen, who feasted on Plough Monday and went about with a plough and dancers. Brand drew this from Blomefield’s History of Norfolk, and from a list quoted by Stukeley of the goods of Holbeach church sold under the king’s injunctions, which included the stand on which the church plough had stood.
