Waterton Farm near Coity, Bridgend, was held by an odd tenure: suit of court and a quarter of a pound of pepper paid to the lord of the manor. The lord was to fetch the pepper on or about Midsummer Day in a wain drawn by eight milk-white oxen. Trevelyan gives it among Midsummer customs, beside another old tenure paid with a red rose.
