Elder flowers gathered on Midsummer Day, dried and powdered, were a receipt for keeping young. A spoonful in a draught of borage water, taken morning and evening for a month, was said to make you look young for a long while. Brand quotes the receipt from Lupton’s Notable Things (1660).
