Yorkshire children kept Palm Sunday with “pawne bottles”, bottles holding a little sugar. They took them to the springs and wells, filled them with water, and sucked at them all afternoon.

In Yorkshire children mark the day differently; they get " pawne bottles," i. e. bottles containing a little sugar, and betake themselves to the springs and wells
