Northern country people counted down the Sundays of Lent as Tid, Mid, Miseray, Carling, Palm and Paste-egg Day, with Tid the first of the run. Brockett took the first three from the opening words of the old Latin service, Te Deum, Mi Deus and Miserere mei, and said the rest explained themselves.
