The Easter sacrament ring

Easter Sunday

Lore and belief

In Berkshire it was a popular belief that a ring made from a silver coin given at the communion would cure convulsions and fits of every kind. Silver collected at the Easter Sunday communion was thought to be especially powerful. Correspondents of the Gentleman’s Magazine in 1794 described it, along with a Devon ring made of nails or screws, and another made from five sixpences collected from five bachelors.

It should seem that that collected on Easter Sunday is peculiarly efficacious.
