Lore and belief

Welsh children were got up early on Easter morning to see the sun dance at its rising in honour of the Resurrection. Any child who doubted it was shown the sun reflected in a basin of water, so as not to hurt the eyes, and the proof was seldom lacking. Peter Roberts put the belief down to the lore of old women.

Should any urchin be hardy enough to doubt the fact, a bason of water was brought out, that (as it would hurt the eyes to look directly at the sun) he might view the reflection of it from the water
