Whitened gravestones at Neath

No longer kept

In Neath churchyard two stones marked the head and foot of each grave, and they were whitened with lime every Christmas, Easter and Whitsuntide. Brand, quoting Malkin’s Scenery of South Wales (1804), took this from the note explaining a line of Mason’s elegy written in Neath churchyard.

The stones at each end of the grave are whitened with lime every Christmas, Easter, and Whitsuntide.
