Lore and belief

The poorer people of Offenham would not allow any washing to be about on Good Friday, for fear of much ill luck. J. Noake recorded it in 1856 among the superstitions of Worcestershire, along with the belief that hot cross buns made that day never went mouldy and, grated into liquor, soothed stomach-ache.

The poorer people of Offenham will by no means allow any washing to be about on a Good Friday, which would be considered the forerunner of much ill-luck.
