In Glentham church a tomb carries a carved figure the people called Molly Grime. Every Good Friday seven old maids of the parish washed it with water fetched from Newell Well, and each was paid a shilling under an old bequest charged on some local land. When the land was sold about 1832 without the charge being kept up, the washing stopped.
