Aderyn bee y llwyd on Old Christmas Day

On Old Christmas Day a party in Wales went from house to house with the Aderyn bee y llwyd, the bird with the grey beak, made from the skull of a horse with false eyes and ears, ribbons and coloured paper. The bearer, hidden under a cloth, pranced and kicked while a groom calmed him, and at the end a hat was put in the horse’s mouth for a collection. E. H. described it in 1819 with the “Merry Dancers” and the figures of Punch and Judy who came out on the same day.

Old Christmas-day is that upon which these, as well as Aderyn bee a llwyd, make their appearance.
