The Chapel gentlemen’s Twelfth Night play

At the court of Henry VII the Christmas plays were acted by the gentlemen of the King’s Chapel, who were well rewarded for playing on Twelfth Night. Sandys found in the king’s books of payments an entry of 7 January in his twenty-third year giving five of them six pounds thirteen shillings and fourpence for acting before him the night before. The same books paid the Abbot of Misrule for his business in the Christmas holidays.
