The parish of St Margaret, Westminster, fed its bounds walkers at Kensington every Rogation tide, with bread, ale, fish, cream and cheese. Brand, quoting Nichols’s extracts from the churchwardens’ accounts of St Margaret’s, gives spiced bread on Ascension Eve and Day in 1555, and for 1597, a year of great scarcity, more than six pounds for the parish diet at Kensington.
