The servants of the Lady May at Greenwich

No longer kept

Under Henry VII a band of gentlemen calling themselves servants of the Lady May promised to hold the royal park at Greenwich every afternoon from 14 May. They would joust, shoot at the standard, fight at tourney and barriers, wrestle and cast the bar, day after day, through the rest of May and a fortnight into June. Strutt described the agreement from a manuscript he owned.
