On Easter Monday the London roughs gathered in great numbers in the fields round White Conduit House, near Islington, to play football. Chambers noted that the game sometimes turned into Irish faction fights, and that by his day the fields had all been built over.

It was usual for London ' roughs ' to assemble in large numbers in these fields for foot-ball play on Easter Monday ; occasionally 'the fun' was diversified by Irish faction-fights
