On Easter Monday in North Wales troops of men seized women, sat them in a chair and lifted them three times with cheering, and on Easter Tuesday the women did the same to the men. The lifted person was expected to pay a small compliment, and all lifting stopped at noon each day. Peter Roberts said a little resistance, real or put on, caused great merriment, but much resistance was scorned.

On Monday the men lift the women, and on Tuesday the women lift the men. The ceremony ceases, however, at twelve o'clock each day.
