In Lancashire the lasses heaved the lads on Easter Monday, lifting them off the ground, and the lads heaved the lasses on the Tuesday. One Easter Monday a school inspector visiting Warrington was seized by the mill-girls, lifted, kissed and carried through the town, to his great terror. The story came to Henderson in a note from the Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould.

The lasses, seeing a timorous spectacled parson walking down the street, with one accord heaved him, and carried him in their arms through the town.
