Carrying the Fly away at Michaelmas

On Michaelmas Day the Oxford cooks rode out again to the green to carry away the Fly they had fetched in at Whitsun. Aubrey remembered the custom from before the Civil War. He likened it to the Olympian rite in Pliny, where flies were driven out of the land after a bull was sacrificed.

and on Michaelmas day they rode thither again to convey [or carry] the Fly away.
